things to consider to develop ur oc more:
- what is their biggest fear? what do they think is their biggest fear? what is the reason for a difference between the two, eg they lack self-awareness or dont want to admit their true fears to themselves?
- what qualities do they like in other people? what qualities do they think they like?
- what qualities do they hate in other people? what qualities do they hate in themselves? (people tend to dislike in others qualities that they themselves have)
basically, a good way to make deeper characters is to develop the difference between the way they think and feel and the way that they believe they think and feel; the difference between how they are, and how they think they are.
and i feel like i don’t see this sort of advice enough, so i’m giving this to you.
This is a good post and I think about this a lot myself. To further clarify and expand upon this idea, depending on how self-aware or aware of others a person is, there is a varying degree of difference between:
-How they perceive their own feelings, thoughts, actions, and judgments
-How others perceive them
-How they really are
-How they perceive the feelings, thoughts, actions, and judgments of others
Second to personal experiences and observations (which is most likely what brought these perceptions about in the first place), this informs how they will behave, how they interact with others, even down to what they like and dislike in menial areas of life.
You can also reverse engineer things and start with something menial they like or dislike and ask yourself why or why not. What beliefs or perceptions made them hold that kind of opinion of things?
